Does AI even know that you exist
GEO optimises for citation rather than position: whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews can read, understand and mention your site in an answer. We measure that and show what is missing.
Can a bot see you
Whether AI crawlers are allowed in, whether the page has content without JavaScript, whether llms.txt and markdown negotiation work.
Can it understand you
Structured data, entity relations, authorship and dates — what turns a guess into a fact for a model.
Are you worth citing
Answer shape, passage length, questions in headings, and external sources that let a claim be verified.
Scored apart from SEO
GEO and AEO get their own scores. A site can have clean SEO and still be invisible to a model — those are two different things.
How GEO differs from SEO
SEO cares what position you hold in a list. GEO cares whether your text lands in the answer a model generates — often with no list at all.
The difference is practical. In search results a page wins; in an AI answer a paragraph wins. A model does not read a document in order — it splits it into passages and picks the one that answers most precisely. Headings, passage length and self-containment matter more here than keyword density.
The other half is technical. Some models read your site without JavaScript, some rely on the search index, some run their own crawler with their own rules. A page that looks perfect in a browser can be empty to a bot — and nothing on screen shows it.
AI SEO, GEO and AEO — are they the same
These three words get used interchangeably, which causes confusion. The practical boundary: AI SEO is the umbrella name for the field, GEO is about whether a model knows and recommends you, and AEO is about whether a direct answer gets lifted from your page.
Technically they overlap almost entirely, so there are no separate task lists. There is one body of work whose result is measured by three different questions.
What GEO is worth
The value comes from there being no list of ten results in answer engines. There is one answer and a few sources beneath it, so the gap between mentioned and not mentioned is wider than the gap between third and fourth place on Google.
The second benefit is more practical: almost everything fixed for GEO also fixes ordinary SEO. Structure, schema, headings and speed work in both directions, so GEO is not a separate budget — it is the same work measured by one more question.

Frequently asked questions
Does GEO replace SEO?
No. Several models rely on the search index, so a site that is not indexed stays invisible to them too. GEO is a layer on top of sound SEO, not a substitute for it.
How long until results show?
Technical work — structure, schema, bot access — starts working within weeks. Citation frequency moves more slowly, because models do not re-read content immediately.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend me?
No, and anyone promising it is talking about something else. You can raise the odds: make the page readable, verifiable and correctly shaped. There is no guarantee here, just as there is none for Google positions.
Should I block AI crawlers?
Almost never. Blocking a training crawler usually closes the citation route as well. The sensible exception is content that is itself the product — and then you block selectively, not everything.
